Do not order an internal CMOS battery when the complaint is short mobile scanning time. Conversely, replacing the main battery will not normally correct a clock or BIOS backup fault. Record the exact system, console revision, option, and battery location described by the service documentation.
Match a main ultrasound battery
Use the original part number plus the complete ultrasound model. Compare voltage, chemistry, watt-hours, housing rails, latch, terminal position, keying, and smart-battery communication. Portable systems may share a family name while using different packs across revisions or geographic configurations.
GE HealthCare's service-parts information, for example, lists a LOGIQ e battery pack as a 14.4 V, 3.6 Ah lithium-ion assembly with an integrated battery-controller PCB. Those details show why a correct voltage or physical outline alone is not enough; pack electronics are part of the assembly.
Daily care that protects runtime
- Use the manufacturer-specified charger, dock, or system power supply
- Keep vents unobstructed while charging and operating
- Inspect the pack, contacts, latch, bay, and cable before use
- Avoid heat, moisture, impacts, and pressure on the housing
- Do not leave a deeply discharged pack stored indefinitely
- Rotate packs using date and service records, not guesswork
- Stop using a swollen, cracked, leaking, wet, or unusually hot pack
Runtime varies with screen brightness, connected probes, processing load, peripherals, battery age, and temperature. Compare performance under a repeatable, manufacturer-approved test rather than promising a fixed number of scan hours from the label alone.
General replacement workflow for a user-removable pack
- End the examination and save required studies according to clinical and privacy procedures.
- Shut the system down fully and disconnect AC power as the manual directs.
- Wait for fans, indicators, and internal shutdown activity to stop.
- Release the battery latch and support the pack; do not pry or force it.
- Inspect the bay for debris, bent contacts, corrosion, liquid, heat marks, and damaged rails.

Should both batteries be replaced on a two-pack ultrasound system?
Follow the system manual and review each pack's identity, age, capacity evidence, and fault history. A mixed-age set may charge and discharge unevenly, but replacing both automatically can waste a healthy pack. Some systems manage packs independently while others specify matched service practices. Record which serial or bay received each pack so later runtime differences can be traced.
Can a battery be hot-swapped while the scanner is running?
Only when the manufacturer explicitly describes hot-swap operation for that exact model and battery arrangement. A second installed battery does not prove that removing the first is safe. An unsupported removal could interrupt an examination, corrupt unsaved data, damage a connector, or force an uncontrolled shutdown.
Does a new ultrasound battery require calibration?
Some smart-battery systems need an initial full charge or a documented gauge-learning cycle; others require no manual calibration. Use the service screen and current instructions. Never run an improvised deep-discharge cycle on clinical equipment, and do not confuse main-pack calibration with replacement of a separate internal clock or CMOS battery.
